This is a quick update. I just got off the phone with her family and she just got out of surgery to replace the skull bone they had to remove for the swelling. She is still in a coma and the hopes are they can bring her out tomorrow. She is fighting the tubes and IV’s right now, so there is movement in her limbs. I sent Flowers to her from the LOP and Trinity. I have posted everywhere I can think of. The local news is going to do a news update on her and females in MMA. With a featured female bout between Sarah Kaufman (8-0) and Miesha Tata (6-1) scheduled on its May 15 “Strikeforce Challengers” series event in Fresno, Calif., the rapidly expanding organization is in discussion with two more female contenders. Gina Carano appears on Inside MMA this coming Friday on HDNet and will hopefully shed some light on her future plans. In a recent interview with Fanhouse.com, Carano noted that she is close to signing withStrikeForce and that the contract is getting negotiated, but wouldn’t give specifics on what is taking so long but did say that the contract would be for the current year and next year. Strikeforce’s commitment to women’s MMA continues, as Shayna Baszler (9-5) was today announced as a participant in the organization’s June 19 “Strikeforce Challengers” event in Kent, Wash. I had a “title” fight in Casper Wyoming last weekend. It was not a sanctioned title fight, but it was still for a nice, shiny belt. I had to cut 10 pounds (it’s so easy to pack it on when you’re not careful!) It was a pretty easy cut with some strict dieting a few days before the weigh in. I made it to 125 without having to get in a sauna. Friday Night was the debut show of Vyper Fight League in Louisville, KY. VPL is operated by Danny Davis (Owner of Ohio Valley Wrestling, a former farm system for the WWE) and funded by Professional Wreslter John Bradshaw Layfield (a.k.a JBL).
